Downey Youth
Basketball
By: Cindy Kojaku The Knights received a last-minute request from Downey Youth Basketball for a 13U team to play in their first tournament. Our 7th grade team, always ready and willing to ball, quickly put together a team.
The team: Jake Watanabe, Jake Petersen, Nikko Linayao,
Andrew Taira, Nick Ball, Matt Sinsioco, Brandon Kojaku and Cameron
Kojaku. Though I didn’t get to see the game myself (MIA due to a bridal shower), I hear tell it was a good game to watch. A couple of AVAC players were missing, along with AVAC Coach Todd, so we’ll just wait until the next time to play our AVAC friends! |
San Pedro Knights v. ABA, Lost by 10 points
Not too bad! We were leading for awhile in the game,
but ABA slowly pulled away, though not by much. Many parents were
heard saying that our Knight boys could have taken this game. Maybe
next time, our boys will want it more and take the win from ABA. It’s
just a matter of time! Do you remember when the Manhattan Beach Bulldogs would whoop us by 30 points? The name Manhattan Beach Bulldogs slightly intimidating with a great coach, strong players. They’re still strong. The difference? Our Knight boys. Our boys are walking on the courts and showing their Knights training. Rebounding, once belonging to other teams, are now being pulled down by our boys. Boxouts, effectively being used. Shooting, used to be 1 or 2 players, now many have the ability. Overall progression! |
Much to learn still, much to perfect (especially our free throws!), but improvement and progress nonetheless! This game showed a lot to our Coach Brad and Coach J.R., with fun (and funny) Freddie Linayao helping! An overall great game, guys! Great job Jake W., Jake P., Nikko L., Andrew, Nick, Matt, Brandon & Cameron!
