Hey all.
Please read the following from Yumi Pena, JP's mom.
Last year, the Knights learned of JP's battle with Cystic Fibrosis and what
an incredibly brave young man JP is. Also made us realize how really
fortunate the rest of us really are.
As many of you remember, the Boys 8th grade team, with volunteers throughout
the program; spearheaded the 4JP fund raising effort that ultimately raised
over $6500 for JP and his family.
Torrance High became the center of our Knights Universe as the entire
program turned out to participate in the festivities to celebrate JP's
courage.
A Mom's game featuring our moms against the Southeastern Warriors moms and
JP's own Knights Boys 3rd against the Southeastern Warriors Boys 3rd were
the highlights of the afternoon.
The CakeWalk (with many donated cakes, including many from the famed King's
Hawaiian bakery, compliments of Vaughn and Debbie Taira) alone raised over
$600. The snack bar was a colossal hit, once again, with everything donated
and sold. Come to think of it, I am still full from the Dibs ice cream that
BadDog Billings had donated from Dryer's.
Finally, let's not forget all the hard work that our boys did with their
door-to-door fundraising. Joey Perri alone raised over $500.
Finally finally, all the 4JP shirts that we sold that day to wear in the
Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk for Team Jakey's Knights.
All in all, a great day for the Knights and a wonderful boost 4JP.
It was such a hit, that I think we'll try it again!
Moms get ready as we'll form two Knights mom's teams this time to do battle
4JP.
Shall we do a "no prior experience" DAD'S game 4JP?
Then, of course, we'll need to find a game 4 JP to play in.
Get ready Boys 4th!

Please also read about the Great Strides 5K Walk. We need to form our
Jakey's Knights team to represent JP. Last year was beyond great!
Team Jakey's Knights was huge and all made the 5K Walk without incident.
Will we EVER forget Coach Brad stopping every 5 feet or so and putting his
little folding chair down to sit? That's my buddy, I'm proud to say, BUUTTTT,
that was embarrassing to be seen with him. I was OK with it all until a 3
year old went whizzing by us and left us in her dust!
Anyway, free lunch (and plenty of it), enough drinks to hydrate us for a
year, and fun and entertainment...all at the Great Strides Walk.
This year, let's really rock the Walk and show how much support JP really
has.

Target date is late April for the Torrance High thing and late May for the
Walk.

It's that time of the year again for our Team "Jakey's
Knights". For those of you who are not familiar with our walk last
year, GREAT STRIDES is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's largest and
most successful national fund-raising event. This year, I'm walking in
the GREAT STRIDES walk at the Santa Monica (Crescent Bay Park) walk on
Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 9:00am.
Just to give you a brief summary of this past
year, it has been truly a blessed year for Jakey "JP". He had the
opportunity of participating in a clinical trial research medication
this past year called Denufosol which helps repair the chloride
channel in CF patients. He's made improvements on his Pulmonary
Function Test as well as being able to run down court without
complaining of chest pains or difficulty breathing as he had before.
Such clinical trials would not be available if it wasn't for all of
you and your support for Cystic Fibrosis. CF has by far come such a
long way in research and continues to strive for that "Cure", our
hope.
We appreciate any donations made in honor of JP
for our Team "Jakey's Knights". Its this simple......log on to
