FORE!

Last Saturday, the Knights embarked upon a new and exciting direction for the youth of our club.

If you weren't there...where were you?

I hope you weren't X-Boxing when you could have been having fun in the sun and learning the game of a lifetime!

There, at Harbor Driving Range, behind Harbor College; the new San Pedro Knights Golf Club was formed.

Seven boys and one girl and four adults, including yours truly; took a golf lesson for the first time in our lives.

Showing up with NO CLUBS and NO BALLS and NO HOPE, I approached the session in "I hope I survive without looking stupid" mode.

As fate would have it, there was the SpinDog with golf clubs and golf balls galore; as the donations have been pouring in from all over the South Bay from die-hard golfers who are just dying to see their sport continue on into the next generation by trying to do their part to see them through it by equipping any and all who care to try and learn this game.

Isn't golf HARD?

Isn't golf REALLY HARD?

The answer is yes and no.

Yes, if you don't have the proper instruction.

No, if you have the proper instruction.

Fortunately for all Knights...

WE have the proper instruction...

WE have Russ!

Yes, when it comes to our young Knights, we only go for the very best instructors in whatever we do.

Isn't plyo run by the RealMan-Man Manny?

Well, we have done the same with golf.

Our Super-G program is now run by Russ Fraser, our very own PGA pro.

Like in our very own pro who just played in the U.S. Open that was played at Torrey Pines a few months ago.

From messin with Tiger one week to teachin our Knights the next.

Nice!

I must admit that just LISTENING to Russ and his theories on golf and body balance IMPROVED my game.

Now my game was a certifiable total mess, so any improvement would've been a success story, but I REALLY improved!

I am now known as TMP (THE Mad Putter)

All of Russ' teaching was of the ANTI-BOB style...meaning quiet, sensible, and logical.

ANYONE can learn from Russ because Russ WANTS everyone to learn.

Even our venerable SpinDog was learning, as was Too Tall Yule.

Since SpinDog thinks he INVENTED the game of Golf; for him to learn anything at all was quite a feat.

Since Too Tall is our club champion (Father's Day title at Sea-Air in a face to face showdown with the SpinDog), for him to learn anything at all was quite a feat.

There were two kids there who couldn't/wouldn't play basketball and were NOT part of the b-ball Knights and did that matter to Russ?

Heck no!

Russ is a Great Golf Guru and it does show.

He just reared back and taught them too.

If he isn't a great and loving teacher, then I don't know what a great and loving teacher looks like.

How do I know what a great and loving teacher looks like?

I just figure a great and loving teacher is exactly what I am not.

Go be an opposite-Bob (an O-Bob) type of coach and there you have it.

Russ is the O-Bob.

Come to think of it...Road Dog is an O-Bob.

Enough said?

I am an old dog and I learned some new tricks on Saturday.

If that can happen, can you imagine what would happen with a youngster who has an unlimited future being exposed to GOLF-GURU-RUSS for the first time?

Being a Knight will lead to the game of basketball.

The game of basketball will lead a Knight to college.

College will lead a Knight to a great job.

A great job will lead a Knight to business success.

Business success will lead a Knight to the game of golf.

The game of golf will lead a Knight to fun, family, and happiness.

Moral of the story: Be a Knight, play golf, be happy!

You guys gotta do two things other than basketball while you are here.

You must get into plyometrics with Manny.

You must get into golf with Russ.

The next plyo session will be Monday at Dana from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The next golf session will be Tuesday at Harbor Golf Range from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

The next basketball session will be Wednesday at 6:30 pm at San Pedro High.

I heartily recommend that you invest in your future happiness and make it to all three sessions.

See you at all three!
